Who Can Straighten It Out?
“Consider what God has done: Who can straighten what he has made crooked?” Ecclesiastes 7:13
I have been thinking about this verse, but forgot how it began. I have made some things crooked and thought this verse was saying I need outside help to make those things straight. That may be true, but this verse is saying something else. There are some things God has made crooked – that’s not a value judgment. God has made things the way he made them. No man can straighten what God has made crooked. No one can do much to change what God has decided and done.
Would this apply to gay people being made straight? 🙂
Probably not – that is not what the writer meant by “straight.” But, it certainly applies to the rough times we are in as a nation.
For context, here is the rest of the passage:
When times are good, be happy;
but when times are bad, consider:
God has made the one
as well as the other.
Therefore, a man cannot discover
anything about his future.
Ecclesiastes 7:14
I love Ecclesiastes, but I don’t always understand.
